A little history about me…Born and raised in Dallas, I attended
Wheaton College and did my student-teaching in a bilingual first grade classroom
in West Chicago back in 1997. After graduation, I moved back home to
Texas and worked in two fantastic school districts as a bilingual teacher in
the second and third grades.
In 2006, after completing my Masters in Reading, I was pulled out
of the classroom in mid-August to take over as the district's Bilingual
Facilitator in charge of staff development and curriculum writing for Bilingual
Language Arts in grades PK-6. Those five years afforded me the
opportunity to observe, coach, and model lessons in so many amazing
bilingual classrooms as well as attend numerous trainings in perfecting the art
and science of language acquisition.
For the past three years, I have been sticking closer to
home with two little students that share my last name. They are
by far the most challenging students I've ever had and now I can't
blame their parents! I deeply desire for them to be bilingual and
biliterate but find that making it a reality is not an easy endeavor. May this blog hold me accountable in pursuing
bilingualism for my girls!
Throughout the past seven years, I have been a part of
an incredible team of educators called EL
Saber Enterprises.
As one of their consultants, I have the privilege of occasionally visiting
school districts near and far to observe, coach, and model as they strive to
implement quality dual-language instruction. Prior to beginning the BB blog, I authored and facilitated the "I Teach Dual Language" blog and Facebook page.
My most recent venture has been with the bilingual parent
engagement resource called ReadyRosie.
It is the perfect blending of my passions as a parent AND my passion for
quality education. I write the literacy
activities and direct Spanish filming.

Now, if you read all of that, you are probably thinking, "So
you're not really a teacher right now!" And,
for the time-being, I am not in a traditional classroom dealing with all of the
factors that position entails (grading, lesson planning, random paperwork,
conferences, meetings, more random paperwork, etc.). However, because I
am not doing all of those things, I have the time to do the reading and
research that you probably aren't finding the time for. So, as you
use this site, let me know how it works in your "real-life
classroom", because we are all always learning and growing and I look
forward to the day I am back in the classroom putting into practice the
things you have taught me!
